The cake above was created for a Dallas Children's Advocacy Center silent auction. These cakes are always especially fun to work since they are going towards such wonderful and important causes!

New Fall Products Part I

We wanted to say thanks to everyone who braved the chilly weather to come out to the show this weekend! We had a wonderful time and it was wonderful to meet so many new people!



Also, a big thanks to this little girl who gave us a big smile while she modeled one of our new products:



These new hair accessories were revealed for the first time at the show and were a big hit! These adorable handmade flower clips can be worn alone but look especially cute with a matching headband. The handmade headbands are made of a super soft, stretchy material that makes them the perfect fit for little girls of all ages, infant and up!



Buy them separately or as our Headband Sundaes, which feature 1 headband and 1 flower clip, size and color of your choice!



New products will be appearing on our website over the next couple of months, but in the meantime they are available at all of our shows and can be requested via email online!

This cake was a custom order for a very sweet woman looking for a cake for her daughter.

She wanted a yellow, green, and white cake three tier cake. After we had discussed this, I found out she had originally started looking online for a stork themed cake, but was unable to find one. I was so very pleased to have this little stork standing by for just the perfect cake.

Congrats to her and her daughter! I hope the baby shower was a great success!

Upcoming Craft Shows

Hey everyone!

We are very excited to announce that we have two craft shows coming up soon! The Shoppe has been buzzing to make sure that we have plenty of new designs and goodies for you to check out! We will be up to our icing in lollipops, truffles, cupcakes, gift sets, and diaper cakes! Oh my!

And.... we are giddy to announce we will be revealing our new products at the shows! They have not even hit the website, so be sure to stop by and see what we've been up too!

This cake exemplifies one of the many styles of diaper cakes that we offer here at The Curious Cake Shoppe. All the goodies are packed inside where you can't see them, but what you can see are the hand rolled diapers that serve as the foundation for all our diaper cakes.

Looking back on the very first "Made From Scratch" cake...

Well, I'm not sure how I forgot to post this one, but I did!

This is the first cake presented by The Curious Cake Shoppe with all handmade ingredients. It was eagerly constructed for my friends almost immediately after hearing the news that she was pregnant. So, needless to say, it was difficult patiently waiting month after month until it was time to present the cake to them!

They had a beautiful baby boy and we are wishing them nothing but the best!

Diaper Cakes: Not Just for Newborns!

I was so pleased to be able to create this cake for a couple who just adopted a beautiful baby girl. The baby is 12 months old, which made this cake an extra special challenge.

This cake is made of Size 2 diapers to match her age range/weight category, and has a really cute matching onesie & summer dress filling. Finally, I topped the cake off with this larger, super soft stuffed animal and lots of fun pink flowers. And wa-la. What little girl wouldn't love being presented with something like this?

So there you have it. Q.E.D: diaper cakes are not just for newborns.

And on a side note: I am so happy for the family and I hope they all loved the cake as much as I loved making it.

Making a cake completely from scratch is a lot of fun! I'm blessed to have so many orders to create them lately, because it gives me the opportunity to truly customize a gift through and through.

Designer Diaper Cakes

We have been making a lot of cakes lately but since we have to wait, in many cases, for the gift recipient to receive their cake before we post it... the blog has been a little quiet. The last thing we want to do is spoil the surprise before it arrives, so we have been practicing a lot of patience.

However, I'm happy to announce that we have a new cake to show-off. This three tier cake was a gift for my sister-in-law and features fabric from Alexander Henry's collection. I highly recommend checking it out in the Flickr Gallery so that you can see the back of the cake.

Another reason to visit the Flickr Gallery, we have finally added a much needed "Gift Set" section that shows off the handmade ingredients featured in this cake. We will be updating it soon with more Gift Sets from previous and present projects.

Some lovely ladies wrote in and asked if I could whip up a custom cake for them with the aforementioned ingredients. I love challenges, so this was a lot of fun! Curious Cake Shoppe Cakes- Cute AND Structurally Sound!

One of our most recent gift recipients was an Engineer over at the Corp. The cake was presented to him at a baby shower, where I am told he very carefully picked it up. A smile crept upon his face as declared the cake "structurally sound." He complimented the cake's "reinforced structure," which was enjoyed by the Structural Section that had pooled together to purchase the gift for him and his wife.

So there you have it folks! The Curious Cake Shoppe Cakes are not only adorable, but structurally sound as deemed by the USACE (unofficially, of course).

Whew, just got back from the craft show and boy was it getting hot out there! The turnout was great, we sold quite a few cakes, cupcakes, and truffles. Thanks for everyone who stopped by to say hi and all our new friends that picked up business cards!

I'll be updating the site with all of our new cakes shortly, but first I must bask in the loving embrace of air conditioning.

Craft Show in Coppell

The Curious Cake Shoppe will be at the Coppell Crafts Festival in conjunction with the Coppell Farmer's Market on Saturday. Last minute, I know, but trust me... I just barely found out myself!

We'd love for you to stop by and say hi. We've been working really hard to prepare a lot of new goodies for the show and can't wait for you to see them!

For some reason, they don't have all the information posted on their website, so here is all the info if you're interested.

Free produce bag, free Hard 8 Pit Bar BQ sandwich, craft vendors, pony rides, face painting, music & more!

First, pick up your free cotton, drawstring produce bag. Bring it back each week to replace a plastic sack or two. Use it to contain produce like peaches, green beans, okra (when it comes in), squash, etc. Great for refrigerator storage, too.

Shop. Check out over 30 craft and information booths situated along Bethel Road. As for produce, you'll start to find shelled lady cream peas and purple hull peas, a few cantaloupe, strawberries, peaches, little green plums, squashes, green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and more.

Eat. Enjoy a complimentary barbecue sandwich courtesy of Hard 8 Pit Bar BQ. Their restaurant is located just west of the market on Bethel Road, so be sure to visit them on another Saturday after you finish your shopping. Hot dogs will be available, too.

Play. Free pony rides, face painting, domino games, music and fun! Check out the Edison phonograph, too.

Be sure to bring a cooler so you can store your meats and produce while you eat and play. For your convenience, an ATM machine is located inside the Coppell Deli.

I made this cake for a dear friend of mine a while ago, but was just now able to meet up with her and deliver it! I just wanted to share it, because I really like the way it turned out. The cake is Made From Scratch, which means everything in it (except the elephant, pacifier, and diapers) are handmade!

A Curious Adventure

I'm writing today to announce the grand opening of "The Curious Cake Shoppe"! It's my own quaint little corner of the internet and I hope everyone enjoys it. Please feel free to pass it around if you'd like, or even to gawk at it and wonder who has such a strange and unusual hobby. It's okay, really. I still gawk. But the fact of the matter is, I enjoy doing it. And life's too short not to embrace the things that make you happy.

Almost there...

The Curious Cake Shoppe . com is almost finished! It is probably silly to post that, since if you are reading this it means I've finished. But everyone has to start somewhere and I started with a blank page and limited knowledge of html. I think everything turned out alright, and I'm hoping that everyone finds it aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions on the site, I'd love the feedback. Anything I can do to make it better for everyone out there will be done.
